Eye Refract Data Transfer Anatomy
The Visionix Eye Refract system is a combination autophoropter, autorefractor, and autokeratometer. The system operates via two key components:
1. (User-facing) An Android application that runs on a tablet attached to the unit, and
2. (Accessible only through remote control software) A Windows-based server application, integrated into the unit.
Data Flow
A file sharing repository exists on the Eye Refract:
C:\Shared_Ref_data.
It contains three sub-folders:
DATAIN: demographic data import (currently unused)
LSM: lensometry files (from a VX40) dump and queue here for import
Rx: manifest exam Rx results dump here for processing
This directory (and its subfolders) are accessible on the Visionix network via:
\\EYEREFRACT\Shared_Ref_data
VX40 Lensometer to Eye Refract
After a lensometry result is obtained, it is transmitted automatically to the LSM folder in the form of an XML file. If a result needs to be re-transmitted, press the "send to phoropter" icon at the bottom-right of the VX40 screen.
Once an lensometer XML file is in the LSM directory, it is ready to be imported into the Eye Refract app on the tablet. This happens by clicking the "Yes" box in the "Do you wear glasses?" field at the beginning of the pre-exam process. After Yes is pressed, the data will populate in the application and the XML file will be permanently deleted.
Eye Refract to EMR
At the end of the exam process, the operator performing the exam will press the Export button. This closes the exam on the device and generates an XML file containing the manifest Rx result (including LM, AR, and K data), which is placed in
C:\Shared_Ref_data
⭐ Note: Exporting will make the exam un-editable, so click it only when the refraction is truly complete.
The XML file is picked up by EyeLogicParser, which must be running at all times in order for the data to flow.
EyeLogicParser converts the data to a format readable by EMR, and dumps a text file to:
C:\!2020NOW\!EMRify-Pre-ARS-Eyelogic
From there, data flows as normal to be picked up and imported into EMR via Transfer-Ref-Launcher.exe.
⭐ Protip: If the data isn't transferring, it is likely because these two programs (EyeLogicParser and Transfer-Ref-Launcher) are not running. Simply ppening them will usually resolve any transfer issue.
Exam Flow Anomalies
1. Date of birth field is outlined in red and exam won't continue
This has been encountered at least twice; even when a date is format-valid (and chosen from the built-in datepicker), the Next button remains unresponsive. The only solution is to force-close the Eye Refract app on the tablet. This has a low impact on the exam and is generally a minor nuisance.
2. App crashes on export
We have seen at least four instances of export (3) or print (1) being pressed at the end of a refraction triggering an immediate application crash. The impact is extremely high; it results in all exam data (including the WaveFront refraction) being lost. The app will work again immediately once reopened, and subsequent immediate crashes are unlikely.
3. WaveFront exam does not begin
We have gotten a few calls about the WaveFront (ARK) portion of the exam not starting. In these instances, the PCC seems to have missed the Play/Start button at the bottom of the screen on the WaveFront test. Pressing this (and making sure it registers) is the solution.
Dependencies and configuration
1. EyeLogicParser must be running, and is referenced in the user Startup directory. Its configuration is simple; only the phoropter type must be chosen:
2. Transfer-Ref-Launcher.exe is also set to run at startup to move the Rx files to EMR.
